Higher Quality. Faster Timelines. Without The Markups.

Our Altadena quotes often come in below what other builders charge for similar scope. The reason is structural: we keep crews, equipment, and project management in-house, and we’ve worked with our trades for years. We aren’t cutting corners,  we’ve cut the markup stack most builders pass through to their clients.

Every line in our quote is itemized. If you’ve received other quotes, bring them. We’ll walk through the differences and show you exactly where our number comes from.

How Tenaya Homes Manages A Custom Build

A Tenaya home is not a production build with upgraded finishes. Every project is designed and constructed for one client, one lot, and one set of priorities, engineered to perform, detailed for daily life, and built to outlast the next generation.

Most clients begin with a cleared lot ready to design from scratch, or with architectural plans in hand that need a builder who will treat them with the care the design deserves. Either way, you’ll have a clear timeline and a fixed-cost budget before construction begins, and the same team carrying the project through to the final walkthrough.

Homes Built To A Standard You Can Stand Behind

A Tenaya home is not a production build with upgraded finishes. Every project is designed and constructed for one client, one lot, and one set of priorities, engineered to perform, detailed for daily life, and built to outlast the next generation.

The same team that walks your lot at the first site visit is the team that hands you the keys. No subcontractor handoffs you weren’t expecting. No quality drift between phases. The home that gets built is the home you signed up for.

    Rebuilding Altadena, The Right Way

Altadena is the heart of Los Angeles’s most significant residential rebuild. After the Eaton Fire, hundreds of families are deciding how to come home — and who to trust with the most important project of their lives. We built our Altadena practice around exactly that decision.

Most of our Altadena clients begin with a cleared lot ready to design from scratch, or with architectural plans in hand that need a builder to execute them. Either way, we give you a clear timeline and a fixed-cost budget before any construction begins.

What It Takes To Build In Altadena

Altadena sits in unincorporated Los Angeles County, with its own permitting realities and a building stock that ranges from early-twentieth-century craftsman to contemporary infill. Current code in the area requires Chapter 7A fire-resistant construction, exterior assemblies, ember-resistant venting, and Class A roof ratings, and many lots come with soils, drainage, and slope conditions that drive design decisions early.

We manage entitlement, plan check, and county coordination as part of every project. Every Altadena home we build is engineered for the conditions of the neighborhood, not adapted to them after the fact.

FAQ: Building A Custom Home In Altadena

Please reach us if you cannot find an answer to your question.

A typical Altadena rebuild takes 4 to 6 months of construction time, not including permitting. Total timelines depend on lot conditions, scope, and how quickly plans clear Los Angeles County. We provide a project-specific schedule before any work begins and update it at every major phase.

Because we don’t carry the same overhead. We keep crews, project management, and equipment in-house, and we’ve worked with our trade partners for years, so we aren’t marking up subcontractor markups or paying rental rates on equipment we already own. Our quotes are itemized line by line, and we encourage clients to compare them against any other proposal they’ve received.

Yes. Many of our Altadena clients arrive with plans they’ve already developed. We’ll review the drawings, identify any value engineering opportunities, and build to your existing design. We also work with our preferred licensed architects when a client wants us to manage the design phase as well.

Chapter 7A of the California Building Code sets the standards for materials and construction methods in wildfire-prone areas, including most of Altadena. It governs exterior wall coverings, roof assemblies, decks, vents, and windows. Every home we build in Altadena is designed and constructed to meet or exceed Chapter 7A requirements.

Yes. Altadena sits in unincorporated LA County, and we manage the full permitting process through the county, plan check, agency coordination, inspections, and final sign-off, as part of every project. Clients don’t navigate the permit office on their own.

The first conversation is a discovery call where we learn about your lot, your project stage, and what you’re looking for in a builder. From there, we’ll arrange a site walk and develop a scope of work with a fixed-cost proposal and timeline. There’s no obligation until you sign a construction agreement.
